PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: how did we get here? addicted to oil ? Did you ever hear of the U.S. streetcar scandal of 1936 ?  public transport was shut down illegally by big oil.

I’ve always loved trains. I spent hours as a child taking 13 hour train rides to visit between my estranged mom and dad ( from northeast to deep south ) leaning my head on the glass, hypnotized by the bouncing  telephone wires, peering into backyards wondering which was the wrong side of the trax i always heard about. I knew the tracks were built from the blood sweat and tears of first generation chinese immigrants and newly freed slaves being paid slave wages- and everytime I saw a stray track off to the side , no longer in use  overgrown with weedy grass and trash, i wondered who could shut down such a vital part of our history ,a practical source of tranport for Jack Kerouac, and one that had brought  dreamers from  coast  to coast like those Vaudville stars headed to hollywood with their 13 Louie Viton bags I watched  from the saturday afternoon movies. It started to make sense later  as I noticed the ever expanding 4 lane highways jammed with  oldsmobile town cars , transams and eventually SUVs shuffling white people to the segregated suburbs and far away from the inner cities with their diverse peoples and public transportation we would share which was where my heart held a place for. The cobblestone pittsburgh street i grew up on had the remnants of ancient streetcar trax that had long been put to sleep. we’d play on the street until some kid on lookout would yell”car” and we’d scatter to the sidewalks. It was accepted to me then that modern technology must have been an improvment taking us into a better future- but still  i would  daydream of one day seeing an  electric  trolly  turning the corner and haunting the block one last time.-Lady Kier

the following can shed some light on our  present economic deeeekline due to our oil addiction and how we got here.

"Between 1936 and 1950, National City Lines BOUGHT OUT more than 100 electric surface-traction systems in 45 cities,[4] including DetroitClevelandNew York CityOaklandPhiladelphiaSt. LouisSalt Lake City,TulsaBaltimore, and Los Angeles,[5] and replaced them with gas guzzling buses thanks to  companies like General Motors. I love buses but GM  had a bigger  long term picture in mind- first buses -then suburban gas guzzling CARS trolling at 14 miles per gallon .   Standard Oil, Phillips Petroleum, General Motors, Firestone and others  were convicted of criminal conspiracy and fined $5000 for their actions of using their ownership position of the various City Lines to MONOPOLIZE the sale of good and services to their bus lines. [7][8]The defendant companies were acquitted of charges that they engaged in an ILLEGAL conspiracy to replace electric-powered street cars with gasoline-powered buses.[9][10] ”          : (

Obama  is supporting the revitalisation of public transport including train tracks across the country. he just dosnt have a propaghanda machine shoving that info down your throat- but he is doing it!

Rethuglicans caught in Illegal plan to stop minorities from voting exposed AGAIN

They’re at it again. This is  how Bush became President twice. Let’s not forget.  Read the link from the daily Kos and remember to vote this November :

 http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/9/20/903538/-Huge-voter-suppression-plot-exposed-in-Wisconsin

also may I add: yesterday Obama took quite a negative reading from unhappy americans whom he had the decency to face. Let me remind you that during Bush’s entire 8 years in office- the only crowd he ever spoke to were young military  personel fresh out of bootcamp and gungho to get to iraq. i’d give anything to see him come face to face with those same group now after they have served- but it won’t happen. he is safe inside his gated community avoiding everyday people. remember …REMEMBER?  -Lady Kier

Vote, baby, vote this november   and make sure they are counted!!!!!!!!    we are watching

it takes courage to speak truth to power. here is a patriotic brave soldier who speaks eloquently about his time serving our country. Remember to vote in Nov. are you registered baby.

thanks for sending this OSVALDO. you are the best!xoxoxo

Let’s take 5 minutes to remember the Jimmy Castor Bunch !

Gerlan’s fabric prints always catch my eye. I was happy to hear a big applause at the end of her show  and run into DJ Michael Magnan from Palm’s OUT sounds who provided the music  as well as rapper  Rye-rye whom I first heard of  thanks to MIA who brought her on tour as an opening act .Bang Bang Bang Bang! listen to RYE-RYE  here : http://www.ryeryemusic.com

More of Gerlan here  : http://gerlanjeans.com/

p.s. I am wearing Peggy Noland - another one of my favs.

Obama tells it like it is when he calls out ” Corporate takeover of Democracy” in the U.S..This is another great recent speech I caught from the President inspiring americans like me to have faith that the guy we voted in office has remained genuine and really will lay it on the line for the majority of us everyday people instead of the privledged corp. execs and top 2% of wealthy corp. shareholders . During the Bush reign of terror  I had an overwhelming feeling that the U.S. was speeding towards  corprotacracy with no turning back….but Obama  brings hope that not all power corrupts and that many in  govt. really do want to make our everyday life better. BP might have tricked him and therfore us but Obama does not want corporations to continue to screw us .  Elections are 6 weeks away …..let’s not forget that Obama got in office because we  were paying close attention to make sure our votes were counted. Let’s not forget the previous prezzy flat out  STOLE an election twice bringing dishonor to the voting process while we weren’t watching so closely . Let’s pay attention , stay informed and vote the people into office that Obama needs to work with to get us out of the hole that the corporations and Bush shoved us into. - Lady Kier

I love my Peggy Noland Cow print dress ! Peggy Noland operates out of kansas and from there provides the world with colorful , fun, innovative, inspiring fashion. You might have recognized her unique style on several talented musicians including Css ,   Ssion’s videos , Peaches , and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Her NYC  show sept. 8th brought high school sock hop cheerspeeders  and jocks on acid flavor. She’s one to watch   and it’s always a plus when the designer can model her own clothes with the beauty and grace that she innately has.

I have been fortunate to know some of the most beautiful women in the world and Pam Hogg is one of them. I first met her briefly in 1990 when I snatched up one of her pannelled catsuits from a london stall on my first tour there and wore it to death including on the cover of my 2nd 12” and on tour worldwide . I later saw her on the cover of ID magazine and wondered  how such a unique  talent and beauty   was not yet a household name in the states. I could see her influence everywhere . shes been ripped off by the best.  When I moved to London in 1996 we reunited and that’s when I was able to really get to know the inside of this  radiating , creative , playful, funny, proud, independent, yet HUMBLE star. Outside of fashion, Pam Hogg is a jill of many trades and  we toured  together  as deejays  to Tenneriffe, Ibiza, Moscow, St. petersburgh among other countries. She was very well respected by Lee McQueen as well as most of london’s art , fashion, and nitelife circuit  and one of the few people I genuinely connected with during my 8 years living there. I love and miss her dearly . Pam! get your skype hooked up ( after your show).

Her next fashion collection will show 19th September at 8.00 pm in London

and will feature Alice Dellal , Daisy Lowe , Ben Grimes modeling again.

SYLVESTA doin STEVIE!  autumn in NYC always comes in  like the backround vocals in this version. New and buzzing with beauty and hope. Listen.

i was in  a 24 hour dream starting saturday night- i’m glad my little camera takes videos so i can show you.

The first time  Coati Mundi  put a spell on me was when I heard  Doc Buzzards Original Savannah band, next to the heavenly vocals of Cory Daye  and  melodies of August Darnell and Stoney Browder ,his percussion ,dancing, and big band arrangements  made for a potent krazed spell I could not ,did not want to shake . The spell has  persisted thruout his other various  music and acting projects including   his band Kid Creole and the Coconuts and Don Armando’s Second Ave. Rhumba band and to see him starring in the classic indie short film by Michael Holman named  ”Do the right thing” . No, this was before Spike Lee’s movie of the same title , maybe  1984-ish  beside the lovely leading lady Suzanne Mallouk. I hadn’t been the same since.

And now he’s done it to me again with the sexy ,sensual ,funny ,and  mannish sounding music from his latest 12 song  release “Dancing for The Cabana Code in The Land of Boo-Hoo.” The one and only Coati Mundi a.k.a. Andy Hernandez has brought us just what the dancefloor needs-  FUN ,originality and some  disco depth with  down to earth lyrics like”dont kiss ass brown nose”  and  lyrics like ” i was married twice the second time wasn’t  so nice ” . I can’t wait to play “Bundas Bom ” , “I Love My Dog (Do Do Do)”, and “dancing disco 101” in my next set in Quebec.

People on my dancefloors around the world  have heard staples  of his in my sets for the last decade such as  ”Me no popeye” , “Endicott” , “Como Esta Usted?”, ”Che Che Le femme” , ‘There but  for the Grace of God”, or Christina’s “Disco Clone”  but to see him LIVE is what i anticipate . I would like to see this album tour with a  full orchestra  because he has more charisma than Ricky Ricardo, is a  true pioneer in dance music , a rare  stylish dandy  and  a superb dancer . Are you listening club promotors? Let’s make it happen.

To be released on Rong Music, the full length album  produced, arranged and composed by Coati Mundi and UK studio wizard E-Love, with additional production by nyc’s Lee Douglas this autumn.

Rong Music is the NYC-based dance label founded in 2003 by Jason “DJ Spun” Drummond (long-time curator of MoMA/PS1’s Warm Up music series) and partner Ben Cook.

It’s Fashion week.    GERLAN is one of NYC’s more inspiring designers . Her textile designs are instantly recognizable  in the way Bodymap used to be in the 80’s. her show is Oct.13th . I know I’ll be there to see.  Here’s some photos from her last collection. I can’t wait to see what shes whipping up for this new collection.

Dorothy, wer’e not in NYC anymore . at The SSION  exhibition  at the Hole, Kansas City winds blew in a tornado of talent with painting, drawing ,music, photographs , Peggy Noland’s clothes, Whoop de doo’s Jaimie Warren and the leading man of the feature film Cody Critcheloe..  The  film BOY was  a string of videos held together like a pearl necklace documenting  Cody Critcheloe’s life . The exhibit will host a live Ssion show sept. 11th.
