As we all know, the 4 major music labels have been crumbling and have layed off 100’s of people at each one, radio promotors lost their jobs over the last few decades, record stores have rolled down their gates for the last time, music conventions are looking like ghost towns, recording studios are going bankrupt daily. My question is…where did all those people in the industry go? what are they doing now ?
Did they attempt to get jobs in the porn industry or other unrelated fields other than music , are they laying back collecting unemployment , or are they part of a growing force who is inventing the NEW music industry ?
and ideas? …I’m really curious where they all went?

I don’t believe that good music will dissappear just because it’s not on the radio or getting tour promotion but many artists like me are stashing the best musical gems merely for lack of sensible business partners, consultants , and financial support while dreaming up modern platforms that would pay our band’s salaries , pay for stage production without blatant product placement , and more importantly without selling out by signing their soul to the “devil”. I’d love to hear your thoughts on where these business folks dissapeared to. The artists need you in the future idioms of music promotion. - lady Kier

EDIT: some people think I’m talking about the artists. I’m not. we’ll be fine . I’m speaking ONLY about the business people, marketers, PR people , label attorneys, product managers. Do they fell there is no place for them or have no forsite into the rising empires independant artists are building?
It is the artists who are leading the way wether they aknowledge this or not , but we can’t do it alone. get in touch with the artists. we see the future and there are jobs for some of you. -Lady Kier

Finally, a reality show that is based on reality  and not brats flaunting their wealth, or mentally imbalanced egos acting up for the camera, or trainwreck personalities locked inside a house designed by Ikea  and manipulated  by the shit stirrers behind the scenes.  This is why i love the BBC.

Don’t get me wrong… i love trash tv  sometimes via hulu but why call it “reality” - just call it what it is “trash” TV

Linton Kwesi Johnson has been my favorite poet since the age of 18. years after hearing  this brilliant revolutionary man I moved to  England , and was living  south of Brixton , in Tulse Hill. I was waiting for a nite bus in brixton when an unsavory character started chatting me up…i tried to avoid him when out of the blue, he asked me if I was a fan of LKJ.  what did he just say?  and answered “but  of course” . he said ‘well…he’s right around the corner at a pub which is locked but open on the DL. and would i like to meet him.I quickly replied  ”very yes” . we walked a block and knocked on the side door and LKJ opened the door wearing a bright blue adidas track suit and invited us in with a smile on his face. LKJ went back to the pool table as I watched his every move from a booth …thinking of something poetic to say to him … but nothing came to mind….the character who brought me there was quickly  getting on my last nerve . I realized suddenly….why would I want to be introduced  to my hero  by bad company, so  I hightailed it out of there as I waved goodbye to LKJ. not much of a story but an important moment for me. Here is a video of one of my favorite poems although there are many others. if you don’t know about him…now you do-  Lady Kier

P.S. the basslines of Dennis Bovell are the parallel  compliment to Linton’s storys , voval tone, and  delivery creating nothing but eternal perfection.

ALMANOVA  are a rare crew  because when the gig sold out ,these promotors could have easily crammed the venue to capacity ,as their phone never stopped ringing  thruout our lunch prior to the gig from “friends’ asking for paid  guestlist but Almanova was firm in explaining ” they didnt want the dancefloor to be too crowded” for the true throw down dancers and ..how do you say….deeeklined additional ticket sales - they stuck to their guns , the night was a blast  and the crowd went bonkers when i switched the set into rare p-funk and sly stone SURPRIZE mix midway . When James Dobbin ,the opening dj started his set with my current favorite disco hiphop song “are you doing alrite” I raced from the dancefloor in my silver  platform shoes and back to the booth to give him a big smiley hug and then back to the floor . I have not witnessed this general concern for  the dancers in years and it was heartwarming in the middle of a $ depression  to see that a proper dance party culture can trump greed. The Almanova music policy is diverse old school disco ,new-school disco but all GOOD SCHOOL DISCO including italo, and obscure 80’s pop hits- very uplifting. Almanova- if you ever want me back-just whistle.-Lady Kier

ooh…Shim’s voice is even better live !  the definition of REALNESS.

instant karma for a bad kop. Some people automatically hate all cops and as much as i’ve seen some cops bully  , beat up a guy once , frisk an 7 mexican youth for no apparent reason other than they were wearing khaki pants and crisp white t-shirts ,and even  had an undercover cop put a gun to my head completely abusing his power I am glad they are here because i know they deter crime. I was amazed when i lived in England that the cops were taught to address every citizen as mam or sir and that rule  alone seemed to give the UK cops a smarter and more compassionate image . I  even dated a cop ( he was actually a homicide detective and gave great story) so I

PEARL !  When I first met Pearl, i was unaware of shim’s couture skills-  I only knew herm had worked on the legendary Leigh Bowery designs and that was all I needed to hear to commission a butterfly  costume intended for the INFINITY WITHIN  deee-lite tour in 1992. I didn’t know at the time that  my rehersals , costumes and entire tour plans would be squashed due to Warner brothers rackets /Nelektra records refusal to give one dime of tour support nor aknowledge our music and message as anything worthy .  ”it’s too gay ” or “you already have the dancefloor’s attention- use that as a stepping stone to POP because we will not promote house music” is what I was told repeatedly by the label folks in charge.    However … just before I got slapped with that dirty business of dreams  realisation and the heartache that comes with it as a misunderstood artist on a major label ….Pearl was a bright shining star representing  a bright future filled with fabulous costumes and magical shows to come.I was pestering Pearl  after the first month ” where is my costume -we’ll be on tour soon?” shim said it’s going to take a little longer and i was impatient but at the mercy of a true artist  and so , I left shim to it.. 2 months later shim invited me to the fitting and that’s when I understood what Couture was.   I was gagging when my eyes were first beholden to the vision of copper , pink, and mellon colored beads swirled into the most beautiful insect costume worthy of museum space. One day there will be an exhibition  with Pearl’s many costumes  and I shall surely lend  the garment. I have very little footage of the 2 times i wore it ( if anyone has any video footage -please send to me at info@ladykier.com)  I recently saw this little documentary on Pearl and it brought back memories when i lived in London and we would swim together in a huge pool somewhere in the old east end. It was like swimming with a prima balerina mermaid.  Pearl-I’ll always have a smile for you. -lady kier

LOVE ROLLERCOASTER! by the Ohio Players   this has been a personal favorite since the first time it stopped me in my trax and it has made me proud to have been born in Youngstown , Ohio. make sure you see the dancers ….popping and locking…hey hey hey

It was fantastic to see Pam Hogg and her new collection during my brief stay in London. I’m very excited about the film she’s directing . The ever so talented Eric D. Clark brought me to the Shorditch house. My  my….how Hoxton has changed since I  moved back home to NYC in 2004 from there. It brought back a lot of fun memories traipsing around the old new nabe. I was listening to Greg Wilson edits on my ipod as well as some new music I churned out the first night I arrived with House of Lords who made time to squeeze me into their studio in the  midst of co- producing the new George Clinton album. weeeee.   1  1/2  days in london was just enough. i listened to the new  trax I wrote with A GUY CALLED GERALD all the way back on the plane. The snow is nearly gone in NYC and I am ready to get busy for spring 2011 releases. if your’e out and about this sunday  come catch me dj at the new club called DROPOUT at DonHills -  an appropriate name for my mystery phase of managing to hide  from the limelite and yet do whatever the eff  I want all around the world .

was always and still is my fav Tina Marie song ! R.I.P. mama. your voice is eternal.
