. In the U.S ,we are taught as soon as we can walk, to  keep  it moving right on past the homeless people.  i remember looking up at my dad the first time i saw a real down and out guy sitting on the sidewalk and  my hand was held tighter and the pace picked up .  I remember asking the questions  but no words were spoken in reply. i always had to run beside dad anyway…. years after dad left ……as a teenager ,i read kurt Vonneguts “godbless you Mr. Rosewater” where the wealthiest woman in the world was a bag lady ,and it made me realize that many homeless people just need mental healthcare ,have had very powerful positions and stories of success in their past on wall street, in business, in entertainment, or were viet nam vets , gulf war or iraqi vets. The hardest thing for me to do since moving back from living in London for 9 years ( where the social democratic govt provides homes for the homeless) was to get used to the way we treat our homeless  people here. I’ll never get used to it. It doesn’t appear to me that this  character is homeless to me but all I can say is…..a little madness brings gladness and I am touched by this character. - lady miss kier

this just in from:Andrew Joseph  who  shared Humans of New York’s photo.

"I always refer to this guy as "Carmen Beard-Manda". No matter what my mood he ALWAYS puts a smile on my face!!! Now learning about this former life as a lawyer in Colombia who earned a master’s degree in art from New York University and was pursuing his Ph.D. in Spanish literature when he was diagnosed with AIDS almost two decades ago. His solution is to channel all negativity and express positivity in the face of uncertainty. Thank you Oswald Gomez, I am honored to know your name and learn your story. Thank you for the smiles and the gift of your self expression. "

Playing Toronto Gay Pride is always a blast because Canada legalized  gay marriage 3 years ago, it’s a week-long celebration, and has  285 entertainers , so I was thrilled to be the  headliner for 2012’s closing event ( we’re all headliners here) what is the most well-organised and most professional Pride  i’ve worked with yet. They def deserve to get the WORLD PRIDE event next year! To pull this off without the support of deadbeat mayor Rob ford is another example of their relentless spirit.  Backup singers Kristil Blue and Janee Olivia had such beautiful voices but  too bad their microphones weren’t loud enough to hear them in the crowd. Big props to DJ Bette Ford, Michael “Cotton” Venus and Russell Palloo for getting me there and helping me find my local crew!!!!! love to you all- Lady Miss Kier

DIG THIS! This photo moves me to the 9th degree. it connects us to our forefathers and reminds me how little we know of our true history and how much has been covered up both innocently by mother nature or self-serving  by humankind . i am deeply moved by this discovery and want to thank Triangular nation and Sequoyah Oxendine for the post. -lady Miss kier

The first time Sharon Needles tweeted the N word , shim claimed that herm account was hacked , and that since “she had sex with ‘a black’ that there was no way she could be racist”  Her dumb ass doesn’t even realize that her excuse about  having sex with an african american does not exonerate her  from being a racist. how sad  this world can be sometimes. ( She’s not even original ,as I met the FIRST  Sharron Needles ten years ago) This autograph sums up shims bad character , and there is no denying herms ignorance THIS TIME. When “needles”  or Phoo Phooll called two people of color on the show “the help” ,I was surprised that Rupaul didn’t have the sense to boot herm off, but a fool is a fool and if our culture believes money ,controversy, and exploitation at the expense of others is  more important than kindness,  morals and goodheartedness than BOO! I am so glad my instincts told me to reject Rupaul’s  3 different offers over time  to appear as a judge, sing the theme opening song  , and allow them to use my song “groove is in the heart” ( all offering NO money ) . My instincts were right. I could smell rotten and here is another example , while I am glad that she finally chose  an artier finalist instead of  eliminating the arty queens  after the other earlier episodes ,however, we can not hide behind “art” or “freedom of speech” when it comes to racism.

Catiriana Reves ( Sparkles)  who received the autograph above  wrote an enlightening  piece on racism in america and especially within the gay community. Sharron needs to step down and give back the crown. This is not some  sarcastic sense of humor- this is blatant racism..  Here is the Catiriana Reyes message who paid money to be  called a ….can’t even say it…..:—  Lady Miss Kier      www.ladykier.com

” I understand being provocative, but who signs an autograph to a person of color and uses racial epithets. The N-word doesn’t bother me because it has nothing to do with the person i am. As an anti-racist I am concerned for people who may be triggered by the use of racial slurs. I would really love to engage in dialog with Sharon Needles about her use of hate speech. I saw a video in which Ms. Needles said” i don’t hate people for how they look ,i hate them for how they act”. I see this as a contradiction and I believe that using the N-word while signing an autograph to a fan is hate rhetoric. Knowing how charged that word is and using it for shock value screams racism. The first thing that a racist says is that I am not a racist. We have all heard this before.

Racism is still alive and thriving in American and the world as a whole. It exist within all groups and communities. It is an institution that we are born into and learn to navigate our every action around it. Over time people realize that certain things are wrong and work to help transform our societal injustices. The world we live in today is a much more habitat place than 60 years ago but there are still remnants of that dying behavior. As a person of color in the United States of America I have experienced racism my whole life. I feel that that is a known fact being a minority in any context. It hurts so much more when you receive that treatment from a member of your own affinity group such as my situation with Sharon Needles. I really appreciate that Sharon is not the typical run of the mill boring pretty drag queen. As a former entertainer I love it when performers make their audiences think. I really live for Ms. Needles character. I hope the she uses this platform to help our causes for equality while remembering that in the words of Dr. M. L. King Jr.that” injustice to one is injustice to all”. The irony of the whole situation is that I paid to get called a Nigger but that isn’t the first or the last time I expect that

I just took a glance at the autograph and decided to share it with you. I Would like to say that in oppressed communities we model behavior that we want to be treated with but, I am sad to say that doesn’t always happen. I am not trying to condemn Sharon Needles I only want to use this as an example of what has happened in our society and even within the greater LGBTQ community. When we don’t have the hard conversations about racism, discrimination, poverty, and other injustices we are deluding ourselves into thinking that the world has changed. Laws can be changed and things can look great on paper and maybe people don’t care about the race of who you date anymore but that doesn’t mean we are living in a post racial society. We have to be vigilant in our quest to transform the social landscape of our society. We need to build upon the great legacy of people like Dr. King, Susan B. Anthony, Gandhi and Anne Braden to change our society. Anti-racism is something that takes nurturing and building, the only way to change the state of racism in America is to dialogue with one another not casting blame but by sharing, listening and experiencing each others struggles joys and pains.

I hope that this experience I had can start an ongoing dialogue about racism in this country and how to stamp it out. I would love to host a dialog about anti-racism with Sharon Needles ! I want to believe that she is not racist ,just a bit misinformed about the heinous institution of racism.”

22 years ago I had been auditioning background  singers all day and at the end of the day ,last minute , Zhana Saunders appeared at the door! Her almond shaped eyes and smile made me think of a nubian princess. After hearing her sing for 1 minute , I hired her on the spot to join our WORLD CLIQUE  world tour with Bootsy, Bernie Worrell, Mike “Kid Funkadelic”  Hampton, Trey Stone, Barbara Tucker , Robin Lobe , and Dmitry ( i’ll have to fill in the drummers  last name later but Roger  was steady ,always ready and  kicked butt )   so it was wonderful to have a  mini - reunion  at Bootsy’s show last wed at BBKings with Zhananananana, especially as Bernie Worrell was the unexpected  special guest of honor. I was happy to meet the lead and backup singers in the new lineup  cause they could really blow  and run into P-funk’s  Razor Sharp, Frankie “Kash” Waddy ,and witness the talented band he put together. I missed hearing Mudbone,Peanut, and Blackbyrd…but all in all, it was tight and that’s alright. Zhana- keep making the world laugh , as your sense of humor is hilarious !!!!!- Lady Miss Kier

In spite of risking being killed ,in spight of their fears, these courageous but small group of Iranians took a stand. this is how it happens……just a few to start a revolution- lady Miss Kier     here’s the official news story :

On May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, a group of LGBT activists in Tehran, Iran, risked their lives to take a stand for gay rights !!!

They were armed with nothing but a single rainbow flag and two small signs — one of which read “No to homophobia and transphobia” in Persian, Care2.com reports.

But in a country where being gay can be punishable by the death penalty, the rare public display of support for Iranian gay rights holds a powerful significance.

These words and beautiful ideas are from my dear Austrailian friend Matthew Hocter on the subject of Marriage Equality: I never considered myself the wife type but perhaps if this was a basic human right shared equally by all , the idea of this institution would not repell me so. thanks Matthew for your big heart and logical mind. -lady miss Kier

FROM MATTHEW HOCTER :

I have never been one to sit on the fence, don’t ask me why this is, I have just always had an opinion. This is not to say that my opinion is always right, I mean after all, an opinion is just that.

It was my Oma who always told me to “never sit on the fence. No good has ever come from someone sitting on the fence, because at some point the fence will crumble, it was words like this that gave me a strong sense of ones opinion(s) and their importance in life. Very wise and very true words that I carry with me today.

In recent times many “traditional” opinions have been challenged and subsequently changed, whether by law, religiously, ways of thinking or plainly in peoples hearts. Think of the women’s suffrage movement, the civil rights movement and even the way people treat their beloved pets. All things that have gone through drastic change and more importantly, education and a mind set & over haul. It brings me to a massive issue that is sweeping the world at the moment, marriage equality.

Now I am not going to harp on about the inequalities that these archaic and unfounded laws pose for gay people and their right to live their life the way they see fit, but I will say that I am hugely disappointed at groups like the Christian lobby and their unrelenting smear campaign against the gay community. I mean what ever happened to “Love thy neighbor” ? I thought that a truly religious person is not meant to judge? Maybe I am wrong. Then again, who am I to judge?

You see, gay people pose NO threat to society in any way what so ever. We (yes, I am one of those very people) do not start wars, we do not form gangs and terrorise people, and I am sure the crime rate amongst gay people would not be surprisingly low. What we do is, pay our taxes (like you and the rest of the country), we love like you do, we hurt like you do, we love our country like you do, we love our friends and family like you do and yes, some of us even have faith like you do. It is time that people stopped fearing us and treated us with the same rights that the rest of the country has, the same rights that we go to vote at the polls with like you and the same rights that protect the country we live in, just like you. I guess you could say, we really are just like YOU.

Please look past the rubbish that is being thrown around at the moment and find it in your heart to see that we too, have a right to love the one we love and should we so desire, marry that special person. I truly believe that my beautiful country, the country that has welcomed people from ALL over the world, will recognise Marriage Equality. Isn’t that what Australia is all about, equality for ALL of its citizens?

#Marriageequality for all!

Dear Lady Miss Kier,

What are the chances that your performance from the Montreux Jazz Festival back from the 90’s will ever be released on dvd or  any of those early concerts be released by your former record label WEA/Elecktra Records. RE:Montreux, I’ve seen that they release various performances by various artists who have performed over the years. Personal fave of mine is  Nina Simone’s performance from 1976.

;-) much love and respect to you always.

Thanks for asking. I hope so. I wrote them and asked them if they’d  let ME put it out as they’ve done for sooooo many artists. fingers crossed . I should bug them again…..Lady Kier
