R.I.P. Fonce Mizell . : ( If you don’t know him you know all his songs. He and his brother Larry ( a.k.a. THE CORPORATION) gave Motown it’s “new sound” adapting the new funk from Sly and the family stone into all those Jackson Five hits and then onto Billie Jean. But what they went on to do afterwards is even more sonically phenominal and brought us the best of the best sunshine jazz such as Donald Byrd, A taste of Honey, Johnny “hammond ” Smith, Bobby Humphrey,Edwin Starr, Gary Bartz and on and on until the break of dawn Silva. . I’ve posted their productions before on this blog. stay in- tune. - Lady Kier

“John Boehner is forcing the U.S. into bankruptcy as part of his right-wing war on middle class families.
Here are the facts — Republicans don’t have the votes to increase the debt limit without Democrats, but Boehner has rejected every Democratic proposal to repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich, end subsidies for big oil, or close tax loopholes for companies that ship jobs overseas. Instead, Boehner wants to gut Social Security and Medicare.
Cutting Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid is insane. It will be a punch in the gut to middle class families and will send the country deeper into recession.
Thankfully, Nancy Pelosi and progressives in Congress are standing up against John Boehner and his right-wing Tea Party colleagues. We need to let them know that we have their backs.
Call your Congressperson right now at (202) 224-3121 and tell them to take Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid off the table.
This is crunch time. Congress has less than two weeks to find a compromise and raise the debt limit. We need to make clear everyone understands that we can’t cut the deficit on the backs of middle class families.
Thank you for all that you do.

"ooh ooh child"…i remember like it was yesterday…..i was 7 years old and my parents had recently divorced leaving me heartbroken….we were driving somewhere in a volkswagon with about 8 people in it…..me being the youngest….i was all the way in the back back. This song came on the radio and i felt like they were singing it to me…after all how many songs are written to children ….it was another version than this …the five stairsteps ? but it hit me like a ton of bricks and as i held back the tears….I knew "someday things would get brighter" - Lady kier
thanks funkateer R for turning me onto this version by The Edwin Hawkins singers!!!!!

90’s night in Toronto last week @ 60degrees . Banzaii! I felt a spontaneous compulsion to jump up on stage and sing a song before my deejay set at the last Banzaii! party , partly because the other performers at Banzaii’s parties free the soul and inspire fire. I loved sharing the stage with Penny Arcade, Soigne Deluxe,Darlinda just darlinda, Hector the illuminator , and on and on until Scott Ewalt hit up the dex with funk and grooves to make our body move . www.muffinheadland .com and Eric Schmalenberger host and curate this monthly loft party in crown heights that is already of legendary status and yet wev’e only just begun.
