"there ain’t no party like a P-funk party cause a p-funk party don’t stop !" that’s for damn sure…..one of my fav things about nyc in the summertime is free concerts and when  P-funk rolled in to play outdoors at brooklyns metrotech park  they created audio  liquid sunshine thru the leaves and blowing in the breeze. Rico kept it in the pocket asJerome Rodgers and Danny bedrosian commanded  the keyboards to make us dance .  Boogie and Billy were feeling it so deep one of them broke a bass string on maggot brain. George sounded great - thanks for turning him up in the mix Dwayne!!!    it was a sweet surprise to hear Shelia Brody back in the mix and Kevin Shider  def gave all his funk to the crowd. I can’t name everybody here but they rocked this crowd and made my day . I give this 5 out of 5 smiles. - reviewed by lady kier

Hampton Roads gay pride ! The day began with a wicked rainstorm but as I asked promotor Mike Beene if it would be postponed he said”  We can’t have a rainbow without stormy clouds”. just as our boat arrived  the sun came out  and I played a set to a beautiful crowd  with several friends from highschool at the end of the rainbow. I got a great tour of Norfolk and va. beach from my HIGHschool BUDdy Brenda Reid! what a treat to remeniss about locals Jim and Tammy Faye ‘s wacky encounters, my favorite teacher mr. Mitchell, getting crabs from Country Comfort, listening to the b52s at “the Wave” ,the insanity of mrs. archibald and her stories about local witches she really believed , getting kicked off kempsville soccer team because i inhaled, the “statue” ,and other stories from the awkward days when first pubes are sprouting. Needed to stay longer next time and catch up with my other long lost but not forgotten  buds . sad to hear about Kim Paland’s untimely death. R.I.P girl!  If I’m not mistaken, this was Hampton Roads very first Gay pride! I was thrilled to be a part of that success and  was looking everywhere for local hero Missy Elliot!- Lady kier

Duke Bootee- youv’e heard his name called out by both  P-funk  and Miles Davis , but who is he ? He’s the one who brought the ominous reality rap  ”the message” into the hiphop game , did percussion on all those sugar hill gang classics, started his own label BEAUTY and the BEAT, and now the author of 2 books..well listen….”dirty stinky broadway”

IF YOU GOT FUNK, YOU GOT STYLE. I asked him if he’d ever do this one live and he just laughed. sigh….I guess nothing can touch the bounciness of this original recording.

James Pants has a new album….here’s a taste…get it on stonesthrow. his sound is so diverse- from funk to crunk to newwave- but never junk.

I was wrong. Beyonce stole the most inspiring part of her show from a less famous, original AND contemporary GIRL currently trying to run the world in italy Lorella Cuccariniand. This biting is more than inspiration….the angel wings, the multiple busby berkly clones, the drums, the linnear shapes booted into motion,etc…..slamming the coffin lid and  putting Lorella’s act 6 feet under . it’s one thing to reach into the past for inspiration like I do ,  but many of todays artists like bouncy, gaga, madonna, rhiana, ke$ha build a career flat out stealing from their less famous contempoarys  struggling in the underground but taking  risks as artists. Before their feet hit the bottom step of the stage and  before they can ever get off the ground , someone with a mobile phone  spreads the infoand wa-la- the rip-off begins with a huge budget.  AND what’s worse is the record companys fund them for that EXACT reason because it’s already tried and true and feels familiar and safe. no risk. they’re selling mediocracy. ( will be their downfall)  The record company’s get nervous when faced with original ideas. it’s why they told dee-lite we were too weird to give tour support to or too gay sounding for any radio promotion or video funding. . they said ” but it dosn’t sound like anything on the radio so  it’s too risky to fund.” Who runs the world????  biters !  Who runs the world? thiefs  Who runs the world? rich kids.  Who runs the world?  copycats. Who runs the world?  those who rip off the tried and the truely inspiring.  NO RESPECT on this one BOUNCY. except for your hips.  yes she did do it better-  but that’s the easy part. I had heard that she’s ripped off Halo and irreplaceable but those songs were so corny i couldn’t bear to listen to the original inspiration - Big Fail for the academy who awarded her “ORIGINAL ARTIST” . this is the generation McDonna inspired to a tee. there are other cultures known for ripping off and bootlegging everything UNIQUE under the sun  -this is  our culture now so….. hide your looks, hide your hooks, hide your riffs, hide your lyrics-they be raping errybody out here.  - Lady Kier

her stage production , chorreography , and performance blew my mind. MUST WATCH

The Ferociuos Bernadette Cooper  and her band  KLYMAXX    1986   “SEXY”

Noone can mess with Beyonce. I don’t care if she sampled “pon the floor”!  look at this video-  she is the best pop star today hands down!! she did again.

war criminals like Cunty Rice need to be prosecuted for their crimes and  not paid to speak at conservative universities attracting small crowds of war-mongering sheeple beeeeying to her defense  -  i am so thankful that these free thinking individuals in the crowd stood up to Cunty giving a voice to millions in the US like myself- lady kier

The talented Coati Mundi was in town to do some promotion for his disco classic album “Dancing for the Cabana code in the land of the boo-hoo” on Rong records and while here,  we went to see some of his disco disciples from the effervescent “midnight magic”-one of NY’s hottest disco bands. As usual they kicked butt and we danced like lunatics all over that floor.  Tiffany , lead singer from Midnight magic is such a down to earth sweetheart and invited us  backstage  for some fun snapshots. I am feeling a warm sense of welcoming amongst ny’s disco scene. : )     - lady kier

Gritty , Joyful, and hard hitting all the  while, is the SAXY Maceo Parker. “pass the peas”, “we’re gonna have a funky good time”,” it takes two” . just a few classics out of the fast paced  hit- filled  Maceo Parker show last night under the stars at  Brooklyn Bridge park! While he’s not backing up Prince , Maceo’s  titey tite tite  band including  Rodney “skeet” Curtis on bass ( P-funk and many others) , on guitar-the steady Bruno Speight , on drums ( somebody let me know his name but he plays with Janelle Monae! ) , on keys ( let me know if you know) , has been traveling the world and giving up the funk. When he was James brown’s horn arranger and MD he learned a mountain of skills that have kept  him killin it to this day  as well as developing his own sound of playing a horn like a drum. I was first introduced to Maceo via Bootsy Collins and  he and Fred Wesely were all over the first deee-lite album and even on stage . That’s him wearing the blue Mugler suit in the “groove is in the heart”  video.  DJ Spinna warmed up the all- ages crowd with his rare golden 45’s . a perfect spring evening. Maceo will  be back  in NYC May 18th at S.O.B.s - lady kier

I suggest you get his new album :   http://maceoparker.com/
